Saxena puts the brakes on Shankar's budget

Director Shankar, who is making ' Endhiran: The Robot ' with superstar Rajnikanth and Aishwarya Rai-Bachchan in the lead, is reported to have thought up a sequence wherein the villain would have to come walking down a fly-over. For this sequence, Shankar reportedly wanted to erect huge and expensive set costing Rs.10 crores.

Hansraj Saxena, the chief executive officer of Sun Pictures (the producers of 'Enthiran'), stepped in at this juncture and took a couple of Shankar's assistant directors to the famed Kodambakkam fly-over on Arcot Road around midnight. Saxena pointed out to them that the actual cost of construction of the fly-over cost not more than Rs.3 crores, how wise would it be to erect a 'fly-over set' costing Rs.10 crores?

Not leaving the matter at that, Saxena is said to have called up superstar Rajni the following morning and spoke to him. Saxena's point was that had the expenditure been for a sequence involving the hero, it could have been passed off but for a sequence involving a villain, it was a bit too much for comfort.

Last heard, the whole idea of 'erecting' a fly-over set has totally been dropped. It is also said that computer-generated graphics would instead be used.
